Entrants must be Student Affiliate members and must pass the TMTA Theory Test.

  • Consult your TMTA Student Affiliate Handbook for information about contest divisions, eligibility, submittal of manuscripts, state entry fees, and judging and awards at the state level.
  • Entries judged Superior or Excellent at the local level may be entered at the state level. ¬†Depending on the grade level, there is an additional $15 fee ($20 for ensemble) for any composition that is sent to the state level. Manuscripts, critiques and certificates of participation will be returned to all students.
  • All local winners will perform their pieces in the Original Composition Recital on Sunday, March 15, 2020.¬† All local winners must return their corrected manuscripts to the Chair by January 24, 2020.
  • State level first, second and third place winners in each division will perform their compositions at the June TMTA convention in Houston and receive cash awards.
