TMTA Original Composition Contest

SAMTA Original Composition Application 2018-2019

Entrants must be Student Affiliate members and must pass the TMTA Theory Test.

  • Consult your TMTA Student Affiliate Handbook for information about contest divisions, eligibility, submittal of manuscripts, state entry fees, and judging and awards at the state level.
  • Entries judged Superior or Excellent at the local level may be entered at the state level.  Depending on the grade level, there is an additional $15 fee ($20 for ensemble) for any composition that is sent to the state level. Manuscripts, critiques and certificates of participation will be returned to all students
  • All local winners will perform their pieces in the Original Composition Recital on Sunday, March 3, 2019.  All local winners must return their corrected manuscripts to the Chair by January 25, 2019.
  • State level first, second and third place winners in each division will perform their compositions at the June TMTA convention in Houston and receive cash awards.
