All forms are available online through the TMTA website.

Go to www.tmta.org and click on forms. Scroll down to Performance Contest and click on the Local Association Application.

Teachers will also need to complete the repertoire list. Photocopies of the first page of each piece must be sent to the chair or scanned and emailed to the chair by the due date.

Finally, teachers must email the local chair a jpeg photo of each student with their application.It is the teacher’s responsibility to see that all applications are complete by the deadline. (Application, repertoire list, first pages and jpeg).

Applicants with incomplete files will not be allowed to compete. As stated in the TMTA guidelines, please do not allow students to contact the chair.

As enforced at the semi-final and final levels, all teachers of competing students will be required to assist with monitoring and timekeeping duties at the local level.

 

Guidelines:

  1. Applications must be filled out by the teacher, not a parent or student. Applications submitted by parents or students will be returned.
  2. In addition to the online form, applications are not complete until the first pages and jpeg are received.
  3. Please send only one check, payable to SAMTA, for the total number of students entered. Checks must be from teachers only. Checks from parents of entrants or entrants will be returned to the teacher.
  4. Information regarding eligibility, time limits, and rules for the local, semi-finals, and finals contests can be found in the TMTA Student Affiliate Handbook available online at www.tmta.org.
  5. Announced winners of each division will be required to pay another contestant fee payable to SAMTA on the day of the local contest. At the conclusion of each division, the local contest Chair will collect this fee to register the contestant for the next level of the contest. It is the teacher’s responsibility to inform potential winners of this extra fee.

Guidelines

  1. This Student Affiliate activity is for grades 1-Post 12.
  2. There is no theory requirement for this competition.
  3. Any number of articles may be submitted.  Teachers entering more than one student are urged to have students write on different topics, if possible.
  4. The topics are purposefully broad to allow the student journalist freedom of perspective.
  5. The list of topics is available on the SAMTA website at www.mig.ribice.xyz.
  6. The articles should be written so that others of the same age will be able to read them.

Submittal of essays

  1. All articles should be submitted to the local chairperson postmarked no later than December 15, 2014.
  2. Each student should keep his original article or a copy, since winning articles become a part of the permanent SA collection.
  3. All essays should be typed (by student, parent, teacher, etc.), single-spaced, using Times New Roman 12-point type for ease of judging.
  4. All essays should include a bibliography and discography, citing the sources of information used in the paper.
  5. Students should take care to avoid plagiarism by rephrasing information from their sources.  Quotations are acceptable, but should be short and clearly cited as to author and source.
  6. Student’s name should not appear on the essay itself, nor should a cover sheet be used.  The essay should not be in a folder of any kind.
  7. Stay within the minimum/maximum word guidelines, and there should be no illustrations or borders.
  8. Each article must be accompanied by the entry form found on the SAMTA website at www.mig.ribice.xyz or from the chair.
  9. Also send a signed photo release form available on the SAMTA website or from the chair.
  10. Each article must be accompanied by a non-refundable entry fee.  All divisions are $12.00.  Please send all entry fees in a single check, made out to SAMTA-SA.

Entrants must be Student Affiliate members and must pass the TMTA Theory Test.

  • Entries judged Superior or Excellent at the local level may be entered at the state level.  Depending on the grade level, there is an additional $10 fee for any composition that is sent to the state level.  Manuscripts, critiques and certificates of participation will be returned to all students

 

  • All local winners will perform their pieces in the Original Composition Recital on January 18, 2015.  All local winners must return their corrected manuscripts by January 4, 2015.

 

State level first, second and third place winners in each division will perform their compositions at the TMTA convention and receive cash awards.[/fusion_text][/fullwidth]
